St Martin-in-the-Fields - second edition out now

Description

This second edition of our popular St Martin-in-the-Fields booklet – now with an extra 28pages! - contains a revised, updated and expanded list of the main records of interest to the genealogical researcher for the area based on the Westminster parish of St Martin-in-the-Fields, which includes the districts of Charing Cross, Drury Lane, part of Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square. This area was in the county of Middlesex but is now in the London Borough of Westminster. We have much expanded the sections on the parochial burial grounds, military matters and schools and included ones on civil registration the Chapels Royal and the Royal Palaces. Apart from the vital records of the various religious denominations, examples of subjects covered in this booklet are Bishop’s Transcripts, books which can tell you more about the parish and police records. St Paul Covent Garden was taken out of St Martin-in-the-Fields parish in 1645, St James Piccadilly (also known as St James Westminster) in 1685, St Anne Soho in 1687 and St George Hanover Square in 1724 so records from before these dates may be related to people living in these areas. Details include where records can be found, whether they are original hard-copy records, transcriptions in books, or on the internet. This 96-page A5 illustrated booklet is part of our ongoing series of LWMFHS Parish Research Guides.
