This second edition of our Hendon booklet – now with an extra 28 pages - contains a revised, updated and expanded list of the main records of interest to the genealogical researcher for the area based on the ancient parish of Hendon and includes the districts of Brent Cross, Child’s Hill, Church End, Colindale, part of Cricklewood, Golders Green, Grahame Park, some of Hampstead Garden Suburb, Holders Hill, Mill Hill, Temple Fortune, The Burroughs, The Hyde, The Welsh Harp and West Hendon. This area was in the county of Middlesex but is now in the London Borough of Barnet. The area has a large Jewish population and we have greatly expanded this section, as well as those about local burial grounds, business and company records, nonconformist registers and schools. Apart from the vital records of the various religious denominations, examples of subjects covered in this booklet are police records – Hendon Police College was founded in 1934 and is the main training centre for the Metropolitan Police, and RAF Hendon. Details include where records can be found, whether they are original hard-copy records, transcriptions in books, or on the internet, including newly digitised archives from the collections at Barnet Local Studies and Archives. This 96-page A5 illustrated booklet is part of our ongoing series of LWMFHS Parish Research Guides.
