The Ryedale Family History Group began life in July 2005 with 40 members. Now nine years old, we have more than 350 members and continue to grow.
Ryedale is an area in North Yorkhire bounded on the north by the North Yorkshire moors and the Vale of York to the south. The towns of Malton, Norton-on-Derwent, Pickering, Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley are the main centres of population; all rich in social and family history.
In 2011, our group was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant which has allowed us to embark on a number of activities over a 3-year period: parish register transcriptions, monumental inscriptions, war memorial researches, library help desks, and so on.
Our research room in Hovingham is open every Thursday 10.00am - 3.00pm, for members and day visitors; if you are in this beautiful part of England, please pay us a visit.
