About Us

The Ryedale Family History Group began life in July 2005 with 40 members. Now almost 18 years old, we have more than 400 members and continue to grow.

Ryedale is an area in North Yorkhire bounded on the north by the North Yorkshire moors and the Vale of York to the south. The towns of Malton, Norton-on-Derwent, Pickering, Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley are the main centres of population; all rich in social and family history.

In 2011, our group was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant which allowed us to embark on a number of activities over a 3-year period: parish register transcriptions, monumental inscriptions, war memorial researches, library help desks, and so on.

Our research room in Hovingham is open every Thursday 10.00am - 3.00pm, for members and day visitors; if you are in this beautiful part of England, please pay us a visit. Alternately, if you are not fortunate enough to be in the area you can always join via the Thursday morning Zoom sessions (see our web site for details).

Unable to attend in person or join us on Zoom? Send us a message setting out your query and we will do our best to answer (messages can be sent at any time not just on a Thursday).
