Morley and District Family History Group was formed in 1986 by a group of family historians in Morley, West Yorkshire. The group is affiliated to the Family History Federation, and is also an active member of the Yorkshire Group of Family History Societies.
The Group caters particularly for those researching and with interests in and around the Morley area. This comprises of Adwalton, Batley (part of), Beeston, Belle Isle, Bruntcliffe, Carlton, Chidswell, Churwell, Cockerdale, Drighlington, Dunningley, East Ardsley, Farnley, Gildersome, Gildersome Street, Heckmondwike, Holbeck, Hunslet, Hunslet Carr, Lofthouse, Middleton, Morley, Nethertown, New Farnley, Oulton, Ouzlewell Green, Robin Hood, Rothwell, Rothwell Haigh, Stourton, Thorpe, Thorpe on the Hill, Tingley, Tong, Topcliffe, West Ardsley, Woodkirk, Woodlesford, touching on Wakefield and south Leeds.
Members' meetings, unless otherwise announced, are held on the 1st Monday
of the month at Church of the Nazarene, Albion Street, Morley. LS27 9BX (in Morrisons carpark). Doors open at 7.00 until 9.00pm. The venue is within
easy reach of Morley town centre: which is well served by public transport.
Ample free parking is available.
The Group produces its own Journal, Cameo, free to members, which is issued
three times a year. Also, a dedicated local history library is maintained.
Subscriptions cover the period 1st January to 31st December. Anyone joining the
group after 1st October will be considered to be a fully paid up member until
31st December the following year.
