About Us
Welcome to the Hertfordshire Family History Society (HertsFHS) GenFair stall. HertsFHS was founded in 1977 and is a registered charity. The Society plays an important role in family history research in Hertfordshire. We hold a regular monthly meeting in Woolmer Green, near Welwyn Garden City, and try to strike a balance between talks for the experienced family researcher and sessions for complete beginners who do not know where to start.
Since the Society was formed, members have been sending us the surnames and localities of people they are researching. From this an index of Hertfordshire surnames, expressing members' interests, has been formed which has proved valuable to those hoping to discover what others are doing.
The Society also has a number of on-going projects which include the recording of Monumental Inscriptions, Poor Law Records, Quarter Sessions Records and more.
We have published a number of booklets of Monumental Inscriptions and the number is growing all the time. Details appear in our quarterly journal Hertfordshire People and on our website as and when they are issued.
