East of London Family History Society

The East of London Family History Society comprises over 2,400 members who share an interest in family history in one of the most fascinating and historic areas of London.

The area of interest is that part of Greater London, north of the Thames, east of the old City of London gates of Aldgate and Bishopsgate, and through the London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham, Barking & Dagenham and Redbridge to the edge of Metropolitan Essex at Havering (roughly up to the M25).

The Society promotes and encourages the study of family history in the area and holds regular Branch Meetings at four locations within our area of interest.

At these meetings talks are given by guest speakers and there are various resources available; from bookstalls and libraries to fiche readers and computers and of course our most valuable resource, our members, some of whom have an interest in specific aspects of life in the east of London area.
