About Us

About Us ?.We can offer help and inspiration for anyone researching Buckinghamshire ancestors, with a deep and wide historical knowledge of the county and its families, gained over many years. We have useful specialist contacts in every area to whom particular questions about ancestors more recently in the district.

We also have very considerable expertise in researching family history in general, so that advice is not limited narrowly to resources inside the county, but can spread more widely to sources and material held elsewhere. The Secretary's series of McLaughlin Guides for Family Historians are known and sold worldwide as authorative on the various avenues of research you will need.

We offer a quarterly magazine, BUCKS ANCESTOR, which provides a very full version of all talks given to the Society, so that distant members do not feel shut out. Members' surname interests are published in the next magazine after joining, and therefore circulate to our own members and those of all the Societies with whom we exchange copies. Problem advice is available at meetings or by post/e-mail and basic questions are covered from time to time in depth in the magazine. Members are kept up to date with trends, forthcoming changes and temporary problems like removals or long closures of an Archive office.

e pride ourselves on being a friendly group, interested in Your ancestors as much as our own, and willing to help sort out knotty problems. The Society is manned by volunteers and does not employ paid staff to do research for others, but we can arrange this is you require it.
