PS98 Wiltshire Fire Insurance Policy Holders 1714-1731

Description

The late Alan Redstone, a founder member of the Bristol and Avon Family History Society, transcribed and indexed over 80,000 references from policy registers deposited in Guildhall Library, London. He concentrated exclusively on provincial England. The period 1714 1731 was systematically covered using the registers of the Sun Fire Office. These policy register have been preserved virtually intact. They reveal a wealth of material not only of immense value to the genealogist but to the social historian and other students of the period. The date shown is the year of recording of the first or only policy issued. The year of recording of any subsequent issue is not given. References beneath the date relate exclusively to the Sun fire Registers. The first figure is the volume or book number; the second is the number of the page in that volume or book. The master manuscript reference at Guildhall Library, London, is Ms.11936. For example, if you wished to look up the complete entry for Richard Andrews, innholder, at the Library, you would indent for item Ms. 11936/19 and tum to page 188. In cases where no reference is given the insuring office is either the Sun Fire office or the Royal Exchange Assurance.
