First published in 1888 this wonderful book is a comprehensive guide of the preparations made in the county for the expected invasion of England by the Spanish in the sixteenth century. In addition to this many hundreds of names are given in the various returns that were made during this period. The amount of information these contain varies from just a name and the hundred to a full entry such as “Francis Lawley one light horseman named Symon Hill sufficientlye furnished as aforesaid” An excellent publication for the Family, Social and Local Historian.
