Between 1608 and 1628 Tristram Risdon compiled notes relating to various high ranking families in Devon, starting from the fourteenth century to the sixteenth century. These notes lay in the Cathedral Library at Exeter until they were transcribed and published in 1897. Subjects include

• General Armory [of Devon families] • Feudal Baronies of Devon and their Holders, • Knights • Distinguished Men of Devon to name a few.

There are also chapters on Barons and Knights for Cornwall Dorset and Wiltshire as well as Knights of Somerset and Tenants of lands and Manors of England circa 1327 to 1540.Over 300 pages containing heraldic and biographical information relating to various families and individuals. As these are transcripts some are in Latin but most can be translated fairly easily and with the help of a basic Latin dictionary (if needed) should present no problems. This is an invaluable publication for anyone who has a Devon family or a historical interest in the county of Devon, containing a lot of information that is difficult to find elsewhere.
