THE HOLGATE 100
Barnsley Holgate Grammar Schoolboys Who Fell During the Second World War
This publication was prompted by the rediscovery of the Barnsley Holgate Grammar School WW 2 Memorial Board which had been lost when the school was demolished in 2012. This Board has now been restored, finding a permanent home at Shaw Lane Sports Complex which is, coincidentally, adjacent to the Holgate site.
There are over 100 individual reports of the lives, careers and deaths of the Holgate Old Boys, accompanied by family photos, obituaries and news reports from the Barnsley Chronicle which reported each loss. The bravery and sacrifice is respectfully documented whilst the tributes from family and friends are deeply moving.
… this book gives its readers their first glance into the lives of around 100 brave men whose studies there prepared them for valuable service to their country, albeit service which, sadly, resulted in their deaths.
