South Holderness 1905

Description

Dated 1905. Sheet 81/82. 1in to mile This One Inch to the Mile map covers the southern end of Holderness. It does not quite capture the tip of Spurn Head but the atmosphere of Holderness is here. The map covers the area from Marfleet eastward to the coast, and southward to Habrough on the Lincolnshire side of the Humber. On the reverse, a detailed map of the small but ancient town of Hedon is included, complete with directory. It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown, but the following is a list of the towns and principal villages or church parishes that are included on this map: East Halton, Habrough, Immingham, North Killingholme and South Killingholme, all in Lincolnshire; Burstwick, Burton Pidsea, Easington, Halsham, Hedon, Hollym, Holmpton, Keyingham, Kilnsea, Ottringham, Out Newton, Patrington, Paull, Preston, Rimswell, Roos, Skeffling, Sunk Island, Thorngumbald, Winestead and Withernsea, all in Yorkshire.
