PERSECUTION EXPOSED IN SOME MEMOIRS RELATING TO THE SUFFERINGS OF JOHN WHITING AND MANY OTHERS OF THE PEOPLE CALLED QUAKERS

Description

John Whiting was a Quaker from Wrington who was imprisoned in Ilchester Gaol for preaching in the 1680s. He wrote a book entitled "Persecution Expos'd" (published in 1715 describing this experience. This book is a second edition of that publication and includes “With Memoirs of many eminent Friends deceased, and other memorable Matters and Occurrences, concerning the Sufferings of the said People; and remarkable Providences attending him and them, during his long Imprisonment at Ivelchester, till the general Release, in 1686; and continued down to the year 1696.” For anyone who has an interest in the Quakers or has an ancestor who followed this religion this book is an invaluable asset with a large number of names.

Whilst this book is searchable, it has to be remembered that it was written in “Old English” with the different spellings and letters. Therefore the index should also be used.
