Kent FHS CD 05 Index of Medway Marriages 1837-1937

Description

This index was extracted from the marriage registers held by the Medway Register Office and covers the 100 year period from the commencement of General Registration 1st July 1837 to 31st December 1938. Unlike the GRO index the month of the marriage is shown and often the surname of the bride’s father where this differs from the name in which she married.
A key to the codes used to identify Anglican churches is enclosed which should allow users to view the marriage free of charge using the parish registers on-line at https://cityark.medway.gov.uk/. The index includes marriages which took place in the following parishes:- Allhallows, Borstal, Brompton, Chatham, Chattenden, Cliffe, Cooling, Cuxton, Frindsbury, Gillingham, Halling, Hempstead, High Halstow, Hoo St Mary, Hoo St Werburgh, Isle of Grain, Luton, Rainham, Rochester , Stoke, Strood, and Upnor Marriages which took place at a Register Office or non-conformist church are also included. The index is in pdf format and searchable by surname of bride or groom. It is bookmarked by the first 2 initials of the surname.
