The index was published on CD26 with a supplement on CD 27 and includes extracts from newspapers including Dover Telegraph items Nov 1833, to end 1838; Dover area refs from Dover Telegraph 1846/1847; Kentish Gazette items for E.Kent 1808, and 1790, and other years. Newspaper references include such things as: court cases, births, marriages, deaths, smuggling,emigrants, transportations, ballooning, railways, Army, cricket, entertainment, cholera, earthquakes,gambling, weather, elections, executions, flower shows, etc.) First World War : Photos of “Dover” servicemen featured in the Dover Express for 1914-1918. Other items: Also included are some references from: Dover and Eythorne Baptist Churches; Settlement Certificates; Census; Dover lists from various sources; Poll Book entries (owners AND occupiers of property, E.Kent area); E.Kent marriages; banns; Memorial Inscriptions; strays (Kent born people) from various places outside of Kent, indictments (Eliz.I), and unusual or special items found. Area and Dates Covered: Probably about 25% of the index covers the area “around Dover”. Parishes such as Deal, Northbourne, St Margaret's at Cliffe, Tilmanstone, Eythorne, Buckland Nonington and many others are included. The rest is from East Kent (ie Canterbury diocese) generally, a few from other parts of Kent. A large part of the index is from 19th century, other refs include much earlier periods. More than 2,500 surnames are listed and name-variants are cross indexed.
