This volume presents recent research on chapels and chapel life in their Victorian and Edwardian heyday, considering a variety of locations in England and Wales, urban, rural and suburban, some industrial, some newly-developed and some long established. Chapels and chapel people are revealed particularly through the techniques and perspectives of microhistory and family and community studies, linking a wide range of written records, buildings, material culture and personal testimonies to recover the experience of communities of dissent.
