It contains a surname index of names of people that appear in surviving Bedfordshire Poor Law documents. These records held by Bedfordshire Archives and Records Service (BARS) relate to apprenticeship, bastardy and, above all, 'settlement': the movement of individuals and families between parishes both in different parts of the county and further afield into other counties. They can be immensely useful and rewarding to the family historian. This book is a county-wide index of all the names recorded in the surviving papers.
