The author, Walter White, explored the whole of Yorkshire, taking note of all he saw and conversations with some of the people he met along the way. Descriptions of the facilities provided for travellers and the practices of the licensed victuallers, details of manufacture and the working people, interspersed with historical notes. From remote hills and vales to the woollen mills and ironstone mines, from castle to cottage, coast and country, there is a wealth of inspiration, information and education, presented very readably. Included is a map of Yorkshire, showing all major roads and railway lines. First Published in 1861 this, the fifth edition was published in 1879. The book on this CD is machine searchable.
