St Martin-in-the-Fields

Description

This booklet contains a list of the main records of interest to the genealogical researcher for the area based on the ancient parish of St Martin-in-the-Fields and includes the districts of Charing Cross, Drury Lane, Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square. This area was in the county of Middlesex but is now in the City of Westminster London Borough. Apart from the vital records of the various religious denominations, examples of subjects covered in this booklet are Bishop’s Transcripts, books which can tell you more about the parish and local school records through the ages. St Paul Covent Garden was taken out of St Martin-in-the-Fields parish in 1645, St James Piccadilly (also known as St James Westminster) in 1685, St Anne Soho in 1687 and St George Hanover Square in 1724 so records from before these dates may be related to people living in these areas. Details include where these records can be found, whether they are original hard-copy records, transcriptions in books, or on the internet. This 68-page A5 illustrated booklet is part of our ongoing series of Parish Guides.
