Godfrey Edition. Bristol (Horfield) 1902

Gloucester sheet 72.05 covering an area of approximately 1.5 miles by 1 mile.

In 1902, much of the area covered by this map was still agricultural or parkland. Housing and the tramway depot in the Gloucester Road area (mainly to the South of Filton Avenue) and Horfield Barracks are shown. The Bristol and South Wales Union Railway line runs in a North/South direction, dividing the area that nowadays contains the large housing estates of Horfield and Lockleaze. Purdown (the location of the modern-day telecommunications tower) is also shown bordering Stapleton.
